Buford’s Defeat Memorial Service

Buford’s Defeat Memorial Service

May 24, 25

Please contact Laura Ledford for any questions.

If you’re interested, there will be a battlefield tour on Friday, May 24.  This starts at 5 p.m. and should conclude around 6:15 p.m.  This will take place at Buford’s Defeat Battlefield Park located at 262 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

On Saturday, May 25 there will be three separate programs and a lunch.

Please arrive by 10:15 a.m. to have your weapon inspected.  I suggest that you bring a period-style chair or stool to use.  The SAR Commemoration will begin at 10:30 a.m.  This is the service that we have been participating in since 2005.  Near the end of the service, we fire a 3 shot volley over the mass grave.  This will take place at Buford’s Defeat Battlefield Park located at 262 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Immediately following this ceremony, the Friends of Buford Massacre will have their Memorial Day Service. They have been doing this for a few years and it is held in the sun next to the brick sign.  You can enjoy this service, but we don’t normally participate in this program.

At 12 noon, the Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution are hosting a luncheon.  The luncheon will be held at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church,133 S Potter Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.  They have invited us to lunch if you can participate in the American 250 DAR Patriots Marker Dedication at 2 p.m. back at  Buford’s Defeat Battlefield Park located at 262 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

At 2 p.m. the Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson DAR will be unveiling an American 250 DAR Patriots marker.  Michael Burgess is the guest speaker. This is the same kind of marker that this chapter placed at Hanging Rock Battlefield and the one that the Catawba Chapter placed at Bethesda Presbyterian Church last year that many of us helped dedicate.  The ladies have asked that we fire a 3 shot volley during their ceremony.  This will not be over the mass grave.  Once I see exactly how the ladies plan to set up, I will determine a safe firing range.

I need to get a headcount for lunch to Gina Bobo, Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson Chapter Regent by Wednesday, May 15.  If you could please let me know if you are planning to attend by noon on Wednesday, that would be great.

Please contact Laura Ledford for any questions.
